Sinaia Gondola: schedule, fees and route
In the heart of the mountain resort, Sinaia, also known as the “Pearl of the Carpathians”, awaits one of the most attractive facilities: the gondola lift on the Cota 1400 – Cota 2000 route. This lift offers a unique and comfortable experience, whether you are a tourist, skier, or cyclist, thanks to the spectacular panorama of the city and the surrounding mountains.
The gondola not only simplifies access to the resort’s high and long slopes but also adds an extra charm to your trip, turning each trip into an adventure across the mountain peaks.
The station is located in the town center and runs at regular intervals, ensuring you won’t miss out on such an opportunity. Read on to find out more about what you can do in Sinaia and what to expect if you take the Sinaia Gondola.
Sinaia seen from above
Sinaia reveals its true splendor when admired from above, and the city’s cable car offers this opportunity. Once you reach Dimitrie Ghica Park, you can choose between two routes that lead to the Bucegi Plateau and eventually to Babele. Regardless of the route chosen, both will amaze you with their panoramic views.
The cable car ride, one of the most modern installations of its kind in the country, offers a pleasant and comfortable journey. As you ascend, you’ll be able to admire the town of Sinaia for 20 minutes from the heights with all it has to offer. Thus, from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will reach 1400 meters above sea level, where you will be surrounded by the peace and quiet of the mountains.
On the other hand, if you prefer the traditional way, the cable car from the city center takes you up to quota 2000, from where you can continue on foot to Furnica Peak, Piatra Arsă pace to the top of the Ant, Piatra Arsă and finally to the Babele Plateau.
Whether you’re a nature lover or a tourist with a lot of experience behind you, Sinaia has everything you need to truly enjoy the splendor of the landscape.
What sights can you see in Sinaia?
Although it’s a small town, there are many tourist attractions in Sinaia that are well worth visiting for their history and charm.
Peleș Castle, one of the most important castles in Europe, stands out for its impressive architecture and sumptuous interiors. Once you enter the castle, you’ll be amazed by the Hall of Honor, the royal library, and the 50-seat stage theater, all of which are just a few of the attractions waiting for you to visit.

After exploring Peles, continue on to Pelișor Castle which is also on the royal estate. It was built by King Charles I for his heirs, King Ferdinand and Queen Maria. With just 90 rooms, Pelișorul will surprise you with its unique decor inspired by Queen Maria, including the famous golden bedroom made of gilded lime wood.
For a break take a stroll through Dimitrie Ghica Park, which features promenades and playgrounds, and in the winter season an ice rink straight out of a Christmas movie. Along the park’s paths, you’ll see busts of notable personalities such as Ion Creangă and Mihai Eminescu.
Don’t miss the Sinaia Casino, an architectural gem built in a very short time at the behest of King Carol I. Although gambling was banned in 1947, the casino continues to host events, exhibitions, and symposiums.
The route to the Sinaia cable car
To get to the Sinaia cable car, you first need to get to Dimitrie Ghica Park from where you have two options: either take a taxi or enjoy a walk along the Carol I Boulevard. If you choose to walk, you will need to cover about 300 meters to Aosta Street, which will lead you to the Sinaia cable car. Along the way, you’ll come to the intersection with Șoimului Street and then reach Vila Marald, a perfect spot for a short break. When you’re ready to continue your journey, follow Șoimului Street, which will take you to your final destination.
Throughout this journey, you’ll be able to admire the scenery of the forested hills and the town of Sinaia.
With the gondola up to the altitude of 1400
This state-of-the-art facility is an excellent way to reach the 1400-meter altitude quickly and enjoy the mountain views. The gondolas can carry up to 1700 tourists per hour, with each cabin accommodating 8 people. The maximum speed is 6 meters per second and ensures a quick ascent during busy periods, but also a smooth ride during quieter times. During the approximately 20-minute ascent, you will see the town of Sinaia open up before your eyes with all its picturesque views.
Further towards quota 2000
Next, to reach quota 2000 you can take a 30 minutes ride on the cable car. Throughout the journey, you will be treated to breathtaking natural scenery. Once you arrive there, you will be welcomed by the restaurant “La Ceaunul Crăpat”, known for its traditional Romanian dishes. And this is just the beginning of what lies ahead. After taking in the stunning views, you can continue on an easy two-hour hike leading you to Furnica Peak, then to Piatra Arsă, and finally to Babele.
Although the trail is not paved, it is accessible during the warm season and allows you to explore these areas without worries.
Route to Furnica Peak – Piatra Arsă – Babele
This route starts off easy, with the yellow trail marker being your reliable guide throughout the entire journey. First, you’ll reach Furnica Peak, where the view will simply leave you speechless. Continuing along the trail, you’ll reach the Piatra Arsă, with its striking rock formations adding extra charm to the landscape. As you approach the Babele, you’ll be greeted by imposing cliffs that seem to lean towards you. The route, estimated to take about two and a half hours, is ideal for summer, with no special equipment required. If the weather is fine, you’ll have a chance to spot the ‘scarves and red skirts’ of the Babele, which, despite their initially intimidating appearance are quite welcoming.
